Most of my work is done on FrontPage for Mac. While this may break the heart of the coding purist, it permits me to build pages quickly and economically, so our prices for professional quality sites and pages stay low. If it looks great and works well, I am happy... And you will be, too!
Notes from the Artist - Designer, Iona Hoeppner
Content Policy!!!
While I am sincerely committed to producing the perfect site or graphics for you, the content must be wholesome in every way. If you desire something other than that, please seek services elsewhere.
Credits & Copyright Policy!!!
Whether web design, art, graphics or whatever, I hold copyrights to all my work unless otherwise arranged (see Pricing for details) and require that the © notice be displayed along with a credit on each page or at any public presentation of what I have created for you.
Outside Graphics & Clip Art Policy!!!
Since my "signature" is on the site or page I design for you, and since there is a possibility of copyright violation, I am quite fussy about any outside art or graphics to be used in your web design project. I reserve the right to refuse or recreate all outside graphics except established logos, etc. See more below...
Art in Web Design
A web page or site is truly an artistic statement. Good or bad, it is a visual presentation, and as such, the layout and interplay of text, graphics, tables, etc. is every bit as important as the quality of any graphics it includes. Indeed, the graphics themselves often beg for complimentary layout arrangements.
Form & Function
Another aspect to consider is the intended function of the page or site. If a page is presenting volumes of tabulated information, its layout and graphics must be clean, crisp and efficient, whereas a poetry showcase site needs design that will set a mood appropriate to the material.
Setting a Scene, Developing a Mood
Is the mood to be classical, serious, whimsical, somber, light, dark, inspirational...? While these may be hard to quantify, they are readily recognized when encountered. An important aspect of any artistic creation, including web design is developing and maintaining a mood... setting the appropriate scene for the content in question.
Your Own Art & Photos
If you want your OWN graphics and photos included in your web design project, I will optimize and retouch them as needed. Frequently these have huge file sizes which I can reduce without sacrificing image quality. There is a VERY nominal fee for this work, and if not needed, I don't do it.
Animation
For many, me included, animation = irritation. This includes blinking and running news ticker type text. For the most part, these cutesy things make a page look unprofessional and sophomoric, so I avoid them and strongly suggest you do the same!
Video & Sound Files
Have you noticed that most pro sites do not include video and sound files? They realize that by doing so, they will exclude a significant number of potential visitors and cause browser crashes and ill will for many others. Since the internet is a global community, I believe we should design for the majority. Although updated browsers and a huge array of plug-ins is readily available for download, the majority of the world's internet users do not have computer hardware capable of running these huge programs. I love Flash, but I don't use it because it is my goal to serve everyone rather than cater to those who can afford the latest in equipment.
Page Counters
Page counters are the hallmark of the amateur and I will not place them on pages I design. If you are hosted by us, you can receive log files by e-mail.
Frames
In essence frames are two or more separate web pages coded so they load together. Frames are rapidly becoming a thing of the past. As a means of keeping your visitor onsite while exploring external links they are far inferior to simply having the link pop up in a new browser window. As a means of creating a particular look or preventing reload on the left sidebar, they are inferior to proper table code. I no longer create framed sites.
Your Preconceived Design
Almost every client comes to me with a preconceived idea of what they want, and to date not one of the final results matched the original idea, yet every client has been enthusiastically pleased with the finished product! Am I that good? Of course not, no one is! What happens is that the client and I confer as we go and I constantly pray for leading from the Holy Spirit as I work... and somehow, it all comes together in a way that neither the client nor I anticipated.
Time Lines
I no longer give time estimates for it seems that each time I do, I am way off! All I can promise is that I will do high quality work for you and work as quickly as I can... but I refuse to work with deadlines.
